Welcome to the 6th Annual Winter Harp Festival!

I am so delighted to have had the chance to put together another exciting edition of this online festival, with four world-class tutors and performers from around the globe. My team and I look forward to meeting you all online and hope you will enjoy the great range of styles and music that the four tutors bring!

Meet the Tutors

  • Michelle Mulcahy

    Michelle is one of the most significant musicians redefining harp today. Her highly anticipated 2023 solo harp release ‘Lady on the Island’ has been hailed as a ‘masterpiece’ and ‘as one of the most important recordings in recent Irish music history’.

    From a musical family steeped in tradition, Michelle possesses a unique musicality in her playing, ‘music that is played with superb clarity, beautiful melodic expression and innate musicality’. She was awarded the prestigious TG4 Young Musician of the Year in 2006 and was also awarded Female Musician of the Year at the Live-Ireland awards. In 2023 Michelle, Louise and father Mick were awarded the TG4 Gradam Ceoil award for their outstanding contribution to Irish traditional music.

  • Anne-Marie O’Farrell

    Leading lever harpist of her generation, Dr Anne-Marie O’Farrell from Dublin, has performed worldwide as soloist, accompanist, and ensemble player, regularly featuring in broadcasts. Renowned for expanding lever harp repertoire and techniques, she inspired Salvi Harps to redesign their instruments as concert models.

    Her compositions and arrangements appear on international exam syllabuses, and she has premiered numerous new works, including Ryan Molloy’s Concerto for lever harp with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra. A prolific recording artist, she has collaborated with The Chieftains, Moya Brennan, and Brendan Power, and performed for international dignitaries.

  • Diego Laverde Rojas

    From Bogota', Colombia, musician Diego Laverde Rojas has played the arpa llanera, or lowland harp, since 1982. Diego has focused on promoting the traditional music from Latin America, with a focus on the region between Colombia and Venezuela, known as ‘The Plains,’ where the harp holds significant cultural importance. In Colombia, he taught in various music academies and was director of the Folkloric group of the Central University of Bogota', and toured the world as a musician with the "Ballet Folklorico Colombiano".

    Diego has played and taught at harp festivals around the world, as well as prestigious venues including the Royal Albert Hall.

  • Eleanor Turner

    Eleanor Turner is a harpist and composer acclaimed for the warmth and passion she brings to her performances. Winner of the First Prize at the European Harp Competition, Second Prize in the Gaudeamus Interpreters Contest, and a Wingate Scholarship, she has released multiple albums and performed internationally with leading orchestras, ensembles, and artists including Deborah Henson-Conant.

    As Head of Harp at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire she helped challenge societal expectations about the harp. Known for exciting cross-genre and cross-cultural projects including ‘Lullabies for the Land’, she explores new technologies, composition, and performance practices that expand the harp’s possibilities.
